Sir John Mills (1908-2005) was an English actor, best known for his roles in classic British films. He began his acting career in the 1920s, but gained international fame in the 1940s, with his performance in the war film "In Which We Serve" (1942). Throughout his career, Mills appeared in over 100 films, including "Great Expectations" (1946), "Hobson's Choice" (1954), and "Ryan's Daughter" (1970), for which he won an Academy Award. Mills was also a talented stage actor and appeared in numerous theatrical productions. In addition to his acting work, Mills was a passionate supporter of many charities, including UNICEF and the British Red Cross. He was knighted in 1976 for his contribution to British culture and continued to act in films and television shows until his death in 2005 at the age of 97.
