Tom Baker is an English actor best known for playing the fourth incarnation of the Doctor in the long-running television series Doctor Who. Born in Liverpool in 1934, he initially pursued a career in the British Army before studying acting at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama. After several years in theatre, Baker landed his breakout role as the Doctor in 1974, bringing his quirky charm and distinctive deep voice to the character for seven seasons until 1981. In addition to Doctor Who, Baker appeared in numerous TV dramas and films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including The Silver Chair and Blackadder II, while also lending his voice to a variety of animated series. In recent years, he has continued to work in the entertainment industry, appearing in theatre productions and Big Finish audio dramas, as well as reprising his role as the Doctor in various spin-off media.
