Joss Ackland is an English actor who was born on February 29, 1928, in North Kensington, London. He was educated at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and made his first appearance on stage in 1949. Ackland's performances in numerous productions, including the West End and Broadway, established him as one of Britain's most respected actors. Ackland made his television debut in the mid-1950s and went on to have a distinguished career in television, film, and theatre. He was nominated for a BAFTA award for his role in The Trial of the Moke in 1978. He has also appeared in many major Hollywood films, including Lethal Weapon 2, K-19: The Widowmaker, and The Hunt for Red October. Ackland is also known for his charity work. He is a patron of several organizations, including the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and has been involved with many fundraising events over the years. He was appointed a CBE in 2001 for his services to drama.
