Remembering Arnhem

Remembering Arnhem

Remembering Arnhem, at first glance, may appear to be yet another version of the well told story. However this is not the case. This new film is not a detailed day to day narrative of the operation or a document of its failures. This is the moving real story told by the actual men that were there, from their own personal viewpoint and memories. In ‘Remembering Arnhem’ we have recorded the memoirs and personal accounts of a few selected combatants, men that took part. They tell their own personal stories and recollect their own individua experiences. The men we have chosen for this account were all recorded in their twilight years; and for many this film is probably their last public account of their experiences and memories of the ill-fated battle..’Their Last Post’.

September 1939

The start of the Second World War in September 1939 was a pivotal event in world history. In an attempt to expand its territory, Germany invaded Poland. This ignited a series of events that led to Britain and other countries declaring war on Germany. The British armed forces were immediately mobilized to defend their country against German aggression. Meanwhile, Britain's vulnerable groups, including children, were evacuated from cities and moved to the countryside for safety. The Soviet Union also joined the fray and invaded Poland from the east, further contributing to the chaos and violence. The situation was made worse by the Japanese Imperial Army's attack on the Chinese National Revolutionary Army. As a result, war broke out across the globe, with countries taking sides and fighting for their survival. This episode marked the beginning of one of the deadliest conflicts humanity has ever witnessed and changed the course of history forever.
